Agencement Paul Champs was entrusted with the renovation of a door at the Château du Guilguiffin in Landudec. The project called on the talents of a skilled cabinetmaker, a compagnon du Devoir, working in the company's workshop.
Château du Guilguiffin, a jewel of Cornouaille
Situated in the heart of Finistère, Château du Guilguiffin, built between 1750 and 1760 on the remains of an old manor house by architect Nicolas Pochic, was for many years the residence of Nicolas Louis de Plœuc, a member of the Brittany Parliament. This sumptuous estate is not limited to its majestic architecture; it also includes a chapel, outbuildings, kitchen garden, main courtyard, lush parklands, woodland and dovecote, all of which have been listed as historic monuments alongside the château, most of which is built of granite, since 2002. Today, this place steeped in history opens its doors to visitors, offering exceptional guest rooms.
An exceptional project by Agencement Paul Champs
The château's current owner asked our company to renovate a solid door with an 18th-century carved frame. This delicate task was entrusted to our team of Compagnons du Devoir, including a skilled cabinetmaker whose mastery of traditional techniques is his signature.
The restoration of this door was carried out in strict compliance with the recommendations of the Conservateur des Monuments Historiques, particularly in terms of architectural continuity. The door had to fit perfectly into the overall aesthetic of this listed building, respecting its original materials, colour and finish. The challenge was met with flying colours, and every detail was taken care of to preserve the authenticity of the building.
Hand-carved details
After a preparatory phase involving detailed sketches, our cabinet-maker set about meticulously carving each ornamental element, including a magnificent scallop shell. Made exclusively by hand, this work requires hours of work and exceptional precision, testifying to our team's talent and passion for fine craftsmanship.
Watch our video to see how this work of art came to fruition, and how it has now been returned to its rightful place at the heart of Château du Guilguiffin, in keeping with its status as a historic monument.
